Practices to protect data

Published:

While cyber liability insurance can cover businesses that are responsible for sensitive customer data, CBS News provided some methods businesses can use to assure the security of their data.

The news source said the use of a second hard drive can give businesses a place to back up all of their information. Implementing software to run automated backups on an external hard drive can make it easy for a business to back up critical data.

Using networked attached storage is another way businesses can protect their data, and this type of solution allows businesses to back up their files directly onto their internet network, said the news source. Similar to networked attached storage is cloud storage, which takes advantage of data storage in cyberspace by automatically uploading data to a remote server.

The Better Business Bureau of Maryland described a few other methods businesses can use to protect data, which included implementing a document management program, regularly shredding documents and installing and updating virus protection software.
