More SMBs making shift to the cloud

Published:

According to a recent survey conducted by RingCentral, 60 percent of small to medium-sized businesses don't have an IT manager; however, 57 percent of respondents run their business critical applications in the cloud.

"We're seeing that the cloud is fundamentally changing the way businesses operate," said Naveen Gupta, chief product officer at RingCentral. "Legacy hardware and systems no longer fit the way modern businesses work. Small and mid-sized businesses are adopting solutions that are flexible, mobile and affordable, and the survey data clearly speaks to this trend."

Evolving technology is continuing to alter the infrastructure of many SMBs, with the survey finding 67 percent of business owners use document-sharing cloud apps that support a mobile workforce, while 64 percent of SMB owners believe they could manage their entire workforce remotely in the upcoming year.

With SMBs increasingly relying on cloud technology and remote workforces, businesses should be sure to invest in cyber liability insurance, which can protect companies from potential cybercrime issues - such as loss of customer data - that could arise from the increased reliance on technology in the workplace.
