According to a recent survey conducted by AT&T, 43 percent of small businesses use wireless or other types of technologies to complete work outside the office, and 50 percent plan to have this option available to their workers by year's end.
The 2012 AT&T Small Business Technology Poll also found 67 percent of small businesses use tablets, 85 percent use smartphones and 30 percent of small businesses use mobile applications on such devices.
Ebrahim Kashavarz, an AT&T vice president, said there's "no doubt" that workforces are becoming more mobile and "virtual offices" are catching on.
With this increased use of mobile devices to be deployed over different networks, small businesses should invest in professional liability insurance to protect themselves, given the potential for data breaches and cybercrime.
According to an infographic created by Intuit, small businesses rely heavily on the use of smartphones, with 21 being the average number of times per day a small business owner uses a mobile device to do business. Nearly half of small business owners said the use of smartphones is very important to their operations.
