Many SMBs don't have data backup budgeted

Published:

With the upcoming World Backup Day, Mozy is encouraging businesses to remember to back up data, due to the fact that nearly half of the respondents to their recent survey were found to have experienced a crashed hard drive, with 72 percent of those cases resulting in some permanent data loss.

"With World Backup Day this weekend, it provides a timely reminder that professionals need to take steps to implement companywide backup policies and practices that ensure business and client data is protected," said Russ Stockdale, general manager of Mozy.

The survey  found that about 33 percent of small to midsize businesses allow their employees to select their own method for data backup, while 60 percent of businesses do not budget for any type of data backup.

Data loss is a major concern for many businesses, especially those that  are responsible for sensitive customer information, in which case the loss of that data could result in a lawsuit. By investing in cyber liability insurance, businesses can have financial protection if customer data is lost in some circumstances.
