Many remote workers don't have policy to monitor their work

Published:

According to a recent survey produced by Mozy and Compass Partners, 80 percent of professionals are working remotely with the use of mobile devices, while 87 percent of companies have no formal policy in place regarding an employees' use of personal devices.

"Companies can 'spring clean' by ensuring they have defined best practices and policies to protect sensitive company and client information," said Gytis Barzdukas, director of product management at Mozy."If employees are using personal devices for work, companies should consider what kind of work can be performed on their devices, and how to ensure that confidential information is not at risk if the device is lost or stolen."

The survey also found 63 percent of employees at small to mid-sized businesses are using smartphones to work remotely and access company data, while 30 percent are using iPads and 80 percent are working with laptops.

While businesses are being more flexible allowing their employees to work from home and anywhere with an internet connection, they need to protect their sensitive data with the use of professional liability insurance, which helps them deal with cybertheft concerns.
