Director of National Intelligence James Clapper recently told the Senate Intelligence Committee that Iran is planning to amp up in efforts to attack the United States, with cybercrime being one of those threats posed by the country.
"Cyber threats pose a critical national and economic security concern due to the continued advances in - and growing dependency on - the information technology (IT) that underpins nearly all aspects of modern society," said Clapper.
Clapper is concerned advancements in technology are moving too fast, with businesses adopting new systems before they are able to protect the information that can be breached.
Protection against cybercrime can come from a professional liability insurance policy, which can provide coverage related to the fallout caused by computer hackers and cybercriminals based in Iran or elsewhere. Businesses may not be held liable for the information that is stolen from their infrastructure with the proper insurance policy.
To showcase the importance of cybersecurity for businesses, GovSec, the Government Security Conference & Expo featuring the U.S. Law Enforcement Conference & Expo, will take place in early April. The event will feature leaders in the industry of fighting cybercrime, including two current Federal Bureau of Investigation experts who are active in the fight against cybertheft.
