Architects of Houston high rise face design infringement lawsuit

Humphreys & Partners Architects have filed a lawsuit against Buckhead Investment Partners and EDI Architecture for alleged design theft in the development of a Houston project, the Houston Chronicle reports.

The design in question was initially used by Dallas-based Humphreys for the Grant Park building in Minneapolis, and the firm also provided a design to Buckhead for the Texas project.

Patrick Zummo, an attorney representing the architects, feels the project in Houston is almost a direct replica to Grant Park.

"The look of the outside is part of it, but the thing that's the real marker is the building floor plan and the way the elevators and fire corridors and residential units interact with each other," Zummo explained to the news source.

Professional liability insurance may protect the Buckhead and EDI during the litigation process, but Matthew Morgan, representative of Buckhead, stated to the news source that the allegations against them have no basis. He added that the inspiration for the design came directly from that of Lovett Hall at Rice University, the news source reveals.
