Using Facebook at work makes employees more productive

Published:

An infographic found on Keas.com displayed the results of a recent Academy of Management study, which found employees  who are allowed to use Facebook throughout the day are more productive than employees who cannot access the website.

The study was comprised of three focus groups: The control group that was forced to bundle sticks in groups of five while on break, the rest-break group that was allowed to do anything but surf the internet on breaks and the internet browsing group, which could do anything internet-related.

Results from the study showed internet browsers were 16 percent more productive than the rest-break group and 39 percent more productive than the control group

"Short and unobtrusive breaks, such as a quick surf on the Internet, enables the mind to rest itself, leading to a higher net total concentration for a day's work, and as a result, increased productivity," said Brent Coker of the department of management and  marketing at the University of Melbourne, in Australia, according to BusinessNewsDaily.

While businesses can benefit from letting their employees surf the internet, it is still important for them to invest in the proper business insurance to make sure employees don't get the business in lasting financial trouble while using the internet at work.
