Survey: California businesses suffering from too many state regulations

Published:

A recent survey of nearly 700 business executives in California found many don't believe the state's government is business friendly, with only 4 percent characterizing business conditions as "good."

The survey also found 64 percent of business executives in the state view extensive regulations as the most serious problem facing the business climate in the state, which 61 percent of respondents say is "poor."

"There are a lot of great things about being in California, but you don't see companies moving here because of the high cost of doing business," said Brett Guge, executive vice president of California Steel in Fontana. "That's still a bit of a mystery as to how that's going to work. It's very difficult to plan for the cost of doing business."

With an unstable business market in California, companies should look to protect themselves with the proper business insurance, which could help them deal with any financial issues that could stem from state regulations. For example, a property insurance policy with an ordinance or law compliance feature could be essential if a building needs to be rebuilt or renovated to current codes.
