Small businesses need support from the government for success

Published:

Many lawmakers and legislators employed by the government believe small businesses are what drives the American economy. However, CompTIA, the non-profit association for the information IT industry, says small businesses are not getting the support they need from the government.

CompTIA said small business companies represent 40 percent of IT jobs, as well as 98 percent of the IT firms in the country. Because of this, the association believes lawmakers and regulators need to address the needs of small firms.

"Small and medium-sized businesses are the lifeblood of the national economy, employing more than 50 percent of the country’s private sector workforce,” said Todd Thibodeaux, president and chief executive officer, CompTIA. “Yet, too often, when national policy is debated, the interests of small businesses are ignored or misunderstood."

According to Thibodeaux, small businesses don't need a tremendous amount of support from the government, but a "few common sense actions" could go a long way in helping these companies improve upon the technology used by businesses across the country.

Even without additional government support, SMBs may be able to help themselves by looking into business insurance policies that can provide added protection.
