Small businesses a big target for cybercrime

Published:

Many small business owners believe they cannot be the target of cyberattacks simply because their business is too small, but they couldn't be more wrong. A recent article for Fox Business outlined how small businesses are often the main targets of cybercrime and how they can combat against these threats.

The news source said the best way to make sure a small businesses is protected from computer hackers is to encrypt computers with strong passwords, said the news source.

“It doesn’t matter what other security [a business has,] if they break through all the defenses and the computer is encrypted that data is useless,” Neal O’Farrell, executive director of The Identity Theft Council, told the news source. “It’s the simplest and most powerful measure.”

Many small business budgets also don't account for computer security, but this shouldn't be a problem because there are many free security software solutions available on the internet, the news source stated.

Computer security is important for every small business, however, so some money should be set aside for necessities like cyber liability insurance.
