Small business optimism reaches highest level in almost a year

Published:

Recent research from SurePayroll has found small business owner optimism has grown to 70 percent, while 31 percent of respondents plan to hire more employees throughout the year.

"Small businesses are seeing some demand rebounding in their businesses and very few are talking about a pullback in hiring," said Michael Alter, CEO and president for SurePayroll. "These are good signs for the future. Despite the lack of hiring, we want small businesses to continue the momentum they do have into the next quarter and beyond."

While small business owners are continuing to think more positively about the economy, they should look to purchase small business insurance to protect themselves from potential problems that could reverse their currently optimistic mindset.

Small businesses in Iowa are especially expected to kick it into gear this year. A recent survey from Hamilton Hiring shows 55 percent of small to medium-sized business in Iowa are either somewhat or very optimistic.

The survey also found 9 percent of new jobs in Iowa will be at the senior level, while only 3 percent of respondents plan to reduce their workforce.
