Phishing attacks a serious threat to business owners

Published:

According to a recent survey conducted by anti-phishing training provider PhishMe, 69 percent of security professionals claim to come in contact with phishing messages that get past anti-spam filters a couple times per week.

Encountering phishing messages is risky business for small business owners who have much of their confidential information on their computer and mobile devices. The survey found 27 percent of security professionals said some of their top executives at their firm have been the subject of a spear phishing attack. These types of attacks can infect computers and leave them vulnerable to computer hackers.

"Many enterprises believe that because they are using spam filtering tools or other email security technologies, they are safe from phishing attacks," said Scott Greaux, vice president of product management and services at PhishMe. "What we found in our survey is that despite such filters, end users are presented with live, malicious attacks in their inboxes nearly every day."

Understanding the dangers of phishing is the first step for business owners who want to protect their confidential information. By investing in cyberliability insurance, business owners can be sure they are safe from the effects of phishing.
