Nearly half of small businesses believe best days are behind the US

Published:

According to a recent Small Business Opinion Poll conducted by ORC International, many small business owners are pessimistic about the future of the United States, with 46 percent of respondents saying the country's best days are in the past.

Small business owners also believe that the government is a main reason for the lack of small business development, with 82 percent wanting Washington, D.C., to get out of the way, while 34 percent believe that economic uncertainty is the biggest problem facing small businesses.

However, small business owners are more optimistic about their own ventures than they are about the national economy, with 39 percent saying that their best days are behind them. The survey also found 65 percent of small businesses feel they are moving in the right direction.

Small businesses often feel unstable due to factors such as the economy and inconsistent funding, which is why small business insurance is a smart idea, providing protection for SMBs that is especially valuable when times are tough.

Optimism for small businesses has been on the rise recently. According to the Small Business Scorecard provided by SurePayroll, optimism rose to 63 percent in December, which was an increase of 30 percentage points compared to September.
