Intuit report shows minor growth for small businesses

Published:

According to the most recent Intuit report, small business employment grew 0.2 percent and small business revenues also saw improvements throughout May.

The Small Business Revenue Index revealed revenues have continued to grow slowly in recent months, and many small businesses are beginning to come close to 2007 prerecession levels in select industries.

While the Small Business Employment Index marked a small amount of growth, roughly 40,000 jobs were still created throughout the United States, compared with 60,000 jobs that were made in the previous month.

“The employment and revenue indexes tell a consistent story,” said Susan Woodward, the economist who worked with Intuit to create the Intuit Small Business Indexes. “Both indicate there is a recovery underway. We need growth at this level for two more years for small business employment to return to the level we saw in early 2007.”

Small businesses are beginning to appear ready for growth and expansion; however, it may still be smart for small business owners to protect their firms with small business insurance.
