How to deal with troublesome employees

Published:

Troublesome employees may often prompt business owners to purchase business insurance policies that can cover them from potential lawsuits - for example, if a fired worker files for wrongful termination. Other ways to deal with problem employees were recently shared by Fox Business.

When dealing with a difficult employee, the news source said it is important to understand the issue at hand by going straight to the employee, and not relying on office gossip or reports from other employees about the issue.

Another tip from the news source is to confront the problem head-on, which requires a business manager to schedule a meeting with the troubled employee, in an attempt to hash out any issues he or she may have. In this meeting, the business manager should work on strategies to resolve the problem, as well as evaluate behavioral patterns that may be causing the issue.

Other recommendations from the news source included providing guidance for improvement and being proactive when firing an employee, if it becomes necessary.

Substance abuse can also be a problem in the workplace, and some strategies for dealing with this issue include watching for signs, creating a recovery program and proactively taking action with the employee, reported the Los Angeles Times.
