Business owners still need to be conscious of botnets

Published:

A few weeks ago, the Grum botnet - the third largest botnet in the world, responsible for sending out about 18 percent of spam emails - was disabled, which was celebrated by many business owners throughout the world, reported TechTarget.

Despite the size of Grum, experts believe that it is only a matter of time before another large botnet will come into prevalence and spam emails will wind up in the inboxes of business owners, said the website.

"They'll come up with another way to do it again," Lamar Bailey, director of security research and development at vulnerability management vendor nCircle. Bailey continued that people will see a reduction in pharmaceutical spam, which is what Grum specialized in.

Gunter Ollmann, vice president of research at Damballa, a computer security company, told the news source the cybercriminals in charge of Grum are not facing prosecution, so business owners should be wary of other potential botnets.

Internet security is something all business owners need to take seriously. By investing in cyberliability insurance, business owners can breathe a little easier knowing their information stored on the web is covered by an insurance policy.
