Best and worst states to start a firm

Published:

When entrepreneurs decide they want to start their own business, they need to take a lot of things into consideration. One of the the most important things they need to think about is the location.

A recent article from Fox Business reported on Thumbtack.com's most recent small business survey, which outlined the best and worst states to start a business.

Coming in on top was Idaho because the survey showed the state ranked highly in friendly business regulations and how easy it is to start a business. Rounding out the top five are Texas, Oklahoma, Utah and Louisiana, respectively.

While Idaho was the best place to start a business in the United States, the most unappealing state is Rhode Island because it received an "F" in most of the categories within the survey. The state did score very poorly, but it was able to receive an "A+" grade in hiring costs, training and networking programs.

Entrepreneurs should be wary of these rankings before they decide on a place to start their firm. No matter which state they decide on, they should still be sure to protect their new entity with small business insurance.
